Yesterday, April 22 was a crazy Earth Day to remember for one Idaho Lottery player. And as the day progressed, it turned into a crazy day for Ludwig Magana from Magna, Utah a town just west of Salt Lake City. The recent law-enforcement graduate from Salt Lake Community College found himself in Top Stop in Malad around lunch time playing the Scratch GameTM Crazier 8s when, much like the wild weather, things got a bit a crazy for him.
“I bought two Crazier 8s Scratch tickets and won $16, so I came back in right afterward to buy another one with my winnings,” said Magana. “The third time was a charm because on that one I won $80,000!”
From there, Magana then drove straight to Boise (nearly 5 hours) through Idaho’s crazy spring weather of wind, rain, and even hail, arriving at Lottery Offices a little after 5 p.m. where he claimed his $80,000 prize.
A recent home owner, Magana plans to use his winnings on an air conditioner and heater for his house, plus do a little landscaping. For their part in selling the winning ticket, Top Stop in Malad receives a bonus from the Idaho Lottery for $8,000.
His day not done, Magana left Lottery offices less than an hour after he arrived, determined to battle the elements once more and return home – roughly 14 hours after he originally left making it a crazy Earth Day to remember.
Interestingly enough, if you drive the route taken by Magana from Magna to Malad to Boise and back again, it roughly makes a figure 8. Crazy.
